Pining Exchange 2019
May. 29th, 2019 10:41 pmHello! I am verdarach on AO3 and I'm very excited that we matched for this exchange! This is a quick rundown of my likes and dislikes as well as canon-specific notes where necessary. Thank you for creating something for me, and just know that I'm sure that I'll love it!
General Likes:
- Hurt/comfort and angst, bittersweet endings
- Friendship, ensemble casts
- Domesticity
- Being canon compliant
- Second person POV
General DNWs:
- First person POV
The Arcana
Overwatch
Original Work
The Arcana
I prefer F!Apprentice but if that really doesn't work for you, feel free to disregard it. I would also rather the apprentice remain nameless if at all possible (second person POV, just avoiding mentioning the Apprentice's name)
Canon-specific DNW:
- Lucio playing a big role. Mentioning him is fine, as are a few references to past events, but I don't like him and I'd really prefer not having anything to do with Lucio at all.
Apprentice/Portia (both pining - eventually requited)
I love Portia's energy and earnestness. She's reckless, cheerful, and incredibly practical. Her amazement with magic is endearing, how she jumps in to defend the people she loves without hesitation is great. She's social, she's outspoken, and her mischievous streak is absolutely adorable. Some scenarios that I think may be fun:
- Apprentice teaching Portia magic and the both of them think that this is purely professional/platonic/mentor-mentee and inwardly despair. It's a good excuse for love spell-type plots. Or other various hijinks.
- The reactions from everyone else around them as the Apprentice and Portia muddle their way through their feelings. Mazelinka and Julian's reactions would be hilarious. Nadia and Asra may be slightly more sympathetic, though not above teasing either. Who's starting bets? Anyone trying to play matchmaker?
Overwatch
In general I would prefer something set post-Fall of Overwatch or post-Recall rather than during the time Overwatch was active, or before even that.
Reaper/Soldier:76 (both pining - may or may not be requited)
I'm a sucker for tragic romance and I'd definitely not mind whether you choose to have them eventually get together or not. There's a lot of history between the two of them, a lot of bitterness, a lot of wistfulness for what could have been. For this pairing specifically, I want it to hurt. I want them to hurt each other. Maybe irreparably, if you'd like. Or maybe there's the chance that time has given them some perspective of what went wrong.
- Asymmetric secret identity knowledge. One of them knows who's beneath the mask of the other, while the other remains oblivious. How does that affect their interactions?
- They both know exactly who the other is. Both trying to disguise love as hate? Fights start impersonal but never stay that way, and encounters always move from guns to fists because there's something electric about a physical fight that they just can't stay away from.
Original Work
Reanimated Corpse/Necromancer Who Didn't Read the Fine Print (Necromancer Pining - may or may not be requited)
This is a scenario that I'm an absolute sucker for. I keep going back to a scene in a webcomic I love that goes:
'Two fools were in love, and one was foolish enough to love the other, long after he had died. Foolish enough to learn about golems, and how they were made... to believe that you could just make an effort and pay a price, and have what you wanted.
But the price of bringing a golem to life is paid by the golem, forever.
And though dead friends and lovers can be resurrected, love cannot.'
It's not precisely necromancer/corpse but close enough. I want a gut-punch, I want it to hurt. Feel free to take inspiration from that scene or find another angle. I prefer a more fantasy setting rather than something more contemporary, but anything that's not easily picked out as being in a real-world setting should be fine! Happy ending not required!
